Christmas Mouse

IMG_4370

It has been Christmas around my office for the past couple weeks, and now it seems to (finally) be Christmas all over the city!  Tress and decorations are everywhere!  Look at the beautiful trees above…they made my trip to buy a mouse trap a little bit better.   We are trying to pretend it’s a Christmas mouse and not freak out…but it isn’t working too well….I’m freaked out there is a mouse in our apt.

Otherwise we had a pretty calm weekend.  We did some quality lazing….

We went movies Saturday to see Life of Pi (which was great!).  We went downtown to our favorite secret theater.  Here are some pics from our stroll after the movie…

I did do one successful thing this weekend…got our Christmas cards done!  Woo!  December 3rd and they are already mailed out.  If I only had the same motivation to swiffer…

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

What a week….

This has been one of, if not the, all time most stressful week at work…but thank heaven we have gone to print and this issue is over with!  Now I can get back to enjoying life…until we print again in 2 weeks ha!

With all the mania this week, there have been some things that have helped make it better…

(our tree is up and beautiful)

(candy cane kisses are back…and I think they are a suitable breakfast)

(obsession with brussel sprouts, 3 ft teddy my client sent me, my fav red dress perfect for holidays)

(our stockings! not exactly a fireplace but it’ll do!)

(this sweet babe snuggled under my sweater)

(that the mustache month is almost over and I’ll have my cute bf back!)

I ate so much!

This weekend we had a Friendsgiving over at Jay’s Sister’s house.  We had a great time…and I ate way, way, way, too much…I ate so much I didn’t even take any pictures!

I did however make this wreath for Julie…I’ll do a DIY post at some point this week 🙂

In other news…

…my orchid is still blooming and has been for the past 7 months…I don’t know what I’m doing right this time!  Maybe after you kill so many plants the universe finally lets you get one right.

…Rondo continues to be the cutest puppy on the planet…seriously…

…and Jay and I continue to be total weirdos…we like it this way.

Hope everyone is off to a great start on this short holiday week!

Don’t judge a book (or soup)…

The problem with a puppy is you can’t say “come on just smile at the camera for me please”…well you can, and I tried, but it doesn’t work.  This ^ is the result of countless attempts of a picture together on Friday…oh well!

(rondo in his winter coat / unreal pizza from Friday night)

This weekend was nice and lax.  We went to the movies (NiteHawk if you’re ever in the area go! Awesome food and such a fun atmosphere!), saw some friends, played with the little guy, and enjoyed time at home together.  I also made some lentil soup to have for lunch this week…

LENTIL SOUP RECIPE

This is one of my favorites.  My Mom always made it and it’s just delicious.  It may look ugly, but don’t judge…the taste is unmatched!

What you will need:

In the spirit of honesty, I used a can of diced tomatoes,  2 cups stock/5 cups water, a weird amount of black pepper, and some pickle juice on the top…yup…

First get those lentils going on the stove with the water/stock…they need to come to a boil, then simmer for 45 minutes with the lid on.

Next chop up the onion, carrots, celery, tomatoes (or open the can 😉 ) and put them all in a frying pan with a couple tbs of olive oil…

Let that cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.  Then add all your spices (thyme, basil, oregano, garlic, s&p)…

Mix the veg & spices together and let cook for another 5 minutes, then remove from heat until your beans are ready…

Once your beans are done, mix the vegetables and beans together.  Then add the lemon juice and brown sugar…mix this all up, put the lid on, and let it simmer for at least 15 minutes (the longer the better, but make sure to stir).

Then top with some vinegar, or in my case pickle juice (about a tbs), and enjoy!  It may not look beautiful but my goodness it is delicious…

The perfect winter meal!

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

First Snow

A hurricane last week and snow this week…NYC is having it’s share of weather mania!  Above is the view from our living room window yesterday afternoon…I still can’t believe there is snow on the ground!

Rondo went for his first walk in the snow yesterday and, well, he wasn’t crazy about it…

He cracks me up in his hoodie.  Here are some other pictures of the snow in Brooklyn…

At least the snow makes me feel better about listening to Christmas music already!

Sandy/Halloween/NorthCarolina

The past week has been difficult in the city.  With the horrible devastation from the hurricane, lack of power, transportation, and flooding it has been a different kind of week for sure.  Jay and I were so fortunate throughout the storm, with our only real issue being able to get to work (2 1/2 hour bus ride when it’s normally 20 minutes).  I can’t stop thinking about all the families and hope that we can help somehow.  Here are some pictures of our neighborhood and us at home from the days that followed…

(the NYC skyline with power out from our rooftop)

(working from home, rondo watching his first celtics game, crazy bus lines)

(rondo begging for my food, our park totally flooded, homemade ziti)

(comfy boy napping through the wind)

Before the hurricane was Halloween which was a great time!  We got all dressed up and went to our friends party.  Here are some pics from the night (Jay was Abu Nazir from Homeland and I was Khaleesi from Game of Thrones)…

This weekend after the storm and Halloween, I went to North Carolina to spend the weekend at ECU with my best friends!  We went to a football game, saw all our old haunts, ate a crazy amount of Bojangles, and were really excited to all be back together.  Here are some pics from the weekend…

(beautiful campus, beautiful friends)

(football time…and we actually won!)

Unfortunately now it’s back to reality…but I’m still so thankful for how lucky we were during the storm and hope the recovery is swift.

Nets/Celtics

Last night I went to the new Barclays Center for a preseason Celtics/Nets game with my friend Tyler!  The stadium is pretty awesome…comfy seats, all with great views of the court, not just hot dogs and popcorn for food, and a photo booth…

…who doesn’t love a photo booth?!

We were surrounded by Celtics fans too…who would have thought?  Then we came back and hung out with Rondo (the stadium should allow dogs there that are named after the players)!  I think he met his new best friend…

De Niro!

Yay to a relaxing weekend!  Jay and I got to take it nice and easy.  We watched some movies, drank some wine, enjoyed the pup, and got to see DeNiro filming outside our apartment.

Saturday Rondo and I went to the dog park for hours!  After he was nice and worn out, Jay and I went to dinner with his sister and husband.  We went to Gallow Green which is a semi-secret rooftop restaurant on top of the Sleep No More hotel.  There is live 20’s music, beautiful views of the city, people in costume dancing, and a bit of a creepy Boardwalk Empire feel to it.  Here are some pics from dinner:

Sunday we woke up and had a pretty amazing New York moment.  Robert DeNiro filming Malavita outside our apartment!!

We sat on the porch for hours watching them.  Nothing like waking up to DeNiro shooting someone in a car literally in front of your door.  Rondo was very interested in the filming…

After watching, Rondo and I went to the Williamsburg Flea Market for a little vintage shopping…

Before I knew it, it was dinner, HBO time, and bed.  At least we have an event this week with Karmin and Santigold so there is something to look forward to instead of just work (even though it’s a work event)! xo

This weekend…

For the first time in 4 weeks, Jay and I were both home for the weekend together.  It was fantastic.  We were able to take naps, watch movies, eat dinner with friends, and enjoy spending time alone together doing nothing.  Here is a bit about our weekend…

FRIDAY

Friday we had dinner with our friends Reggie and Emily at Dressler. Emily was planning a surprise party for Reggie on Saturday, so to throw off the scent we had a dinner full of unbelievable food and lies about plans.  I had the most amazing artichoke, steak, crabcake, veal cheek (sounds gross but it’s insanely delicious), and peach cake with cream.  Mmm.

SATURDAY

Saturday we went on a big walk with Rondo to the dog park and let him run out all of his energy so we could enjoy the day napping.  On the way back we went to a street fair in our neighborhood where Rondo met more puppies to play with and we got to relax in colorful chairs without any cars.  When we got home we all slept in bed…look at those cuties!

Later that night we had the surprise party which couldn’t have gone better.  He was completely shocked (pictures to come).

SUNDAY

Sunday was our nothing day.  Rondo and I went on a walk down to the pier and enjoyed the skyline and some pretty houses, Jay watched football with his favorite fan, we ate a ton of junk, and watched a couple movies (so lazy!).  My kind of day!

Dinner for me?

Last night after work, I took Rondo on a long walk up to McCarren Park to run around with the other dogs.  He loves it, the sniffing, chasing, running in circles…and I love it because when we come home he is beyond tired.  The best part about it is I came home and Jay was making dinner and got me Fall cider (go get it, it’s yummy).

This morning I tried to get Rondo to give me a kiss in a picture…this is the result…

And then I was bored waiting for Jay to be ready to leave and this happened…

I have a lot of time in the morning since little man has us up at 6:30….clearly.
