United Nations

With all the hustle and bustle over the visitors to the UN (Obama, Agmadinejad), and road closures due to it, midtown has been a little crazy the past couple days.  My friend Erin and I decided to walk over to the UN at lunch and watch the important people walk by!  We ended up finding a raised park that overlooked the UN and stayed there enjoying the view instead of our normal lunch stroll…

And like the grownups we are, watching the important officials walk by…we had ring pops…

This is why we work for magazines and not the State Department.

Yesterday was also Rondo’s first day at puppy day care.  It may be the best thing that has happened to Jay and I in months.  We got home last night, he ate dinner, waited for Jay at the door, and then he was OUT for the rest of the night.  Yes!!

This morning though, he was back to his hyper self.  I got out of the shower to this scene…lovely boy.

At least he is using those long legs for something!

Nada

This weekend we did a whole lot of nothing!  After all of the traveling and weekends apart we were both looking forward to a weekend of napping, movie watching, and cuddling the pup…which is exactly what we did!

Saturday Rondo and I went to a new park by the river…check it out…

You could walk right into the river if you wanted!  Naturally, Rondo gave this his best effort.

Jay and I went on a date to Sea that night and ordered enough for 6 people.  The food was incredible and we had a tasty lunch the next day with all those leftovers.

(my attempt at a braid across my hair for dinner)

Then, like I said, lots and lots of napping, movies, snuggling, and an annoying amount of pictures with the pup…

On Sunday Rondo got to play with his new best friend Frank (which means I got to play with Frank’s mama Chelsea! yay!) Here are the two little guys together:

So cute and afterwards soooo tired and a little sulky because his friend left…

Now it’s back to another work week at Rolling Stone… I miss the weekend!

Subway Stranger

This morning I was running a little bit late to work (shock!).  When I got up the steps to catch my train there was a long line and of course, my train was pulling up and I was going to miss it…but then, the guy 4 people in front of me goes “are you all this train, here go ahead, I get the J” and let us go ahead of him so we could make the train.  I just made it!  I don’t know who this subway stranger was but he made my day.  Thank you for restoring my faith in NYC stranger!

Last night we had a great time at Dr. Dog and Delta Spirit.  Central Park is maybe my favorite place to see shows at this point…

Our delicious dinner at John’s…

And of course a pic of the babe yesterday…I mean, could he be more adorable?!

Have a wonderful weekend!!

Festival

As usual, another busy week here in NYC.  Monday Jay and I went to see The Master. It was fantastic! I had a quick dinner alone at Grey Dog before meeting him and had the best chicken sandwich in existence.  See proof below…

Tuesday Jay cooked dinner (thank you thank you Jay) and he let me watch The Vow.  Best. Night. Ever.  (ha).  Here’s Rondo on Tuesday after stealing my hair tie.  Guilty much?

Wednesday for my friend’s birthday we went to the San Gennaro Festival in Little Italy at lunch.  We both had massive sausage sandwiches (regretted that later) and walked around checking out all the vendors…

Then happy hour with friends last night, which turned into way later night than expected and a nice headache this morning.  Whoops.  Oh yea, and more guilt from this guy…

Tonight Jay and I are seeing Delta Spirit and Dr.Dog in Central Park.  Like I said earlier, busy week!

Surprise Face!

The past couple days have been busy with work for both Jay and I.  This means delivery dinner and early to bed.  At least someone has been enjoying this beautiful fall sunshine while we are working…

I have managed to get Rondo to the dog park every night, which is actually, completely, selfish.  Taking that hour after work for him to run around means no playing fetch in the hallway for hours when we want to watch SOA.  Definitely worth it.  Here is a great building we pass buy on our walk to the park…

Here it is…the (best) surprise face from Reggie’s surprise party this weekend.  This is right when he walked in the door…terrified and so fantastic!

One last thing… NY Mag has a great article about South Williamsburg and all of the amazing new restaurants, bars, and real estate being built.  I love my neighborhood!  Check out the article here.

This weekend…

For the first time in 4 weeks, Jay and I were both home for the weekend together.  It was fantastic.  We were able to take naps, watch movies, eat dinner with friends, and enjoy spending time alone together doing nothing.  Here is a bit about our weekend…

FRIDAY

Friday we had dinner with our friends Reggie and Emily at Dressler. Emily was planning a surprise party for Reggie on Saturday, so to throw off the scent we had a dinner full of unbelievable food and lies about plans.  I had the most amazing artichoke, steak, crabcake, veal cheek (sounds gross but it’s insanely delicious), and peach cake with cream.  Mmm.

SATURDAY

Saturday we went on a big walk with Rondo to the dog park and let him run out all of his energy so we could enjoy the day napping.  On the way back we went to a street fair in our neighborhood where Rondo met more puppies to play with and we got to relax in colorful chairs without any cars.  When we got home we all slept in bed…look at those cuties!

Later that night we had the surprise party which couldn’t have gone better.  He was completely shocked (pictures to come).

SUNDAY

Sunday was our nothing day.  Rondo and I went on a walk down to the pier and enjoyed the skyline and some pretty houses, Jay watched football with his favorite fan, we ate a ton of junk, and watched a couple movies (so lazy!).  My kind of day!

Shake Shack!

Yesterday was a junk day! At lunch I went to FAO’s Candy store and filled a bag with jaw breakers and rock candy, then for dinner Rondo and I had Shake Shack with Lauren.  Delicious day, but not a healthy one!  We met Lauren in Madison Square Park for some burgers, fries, and a doggy peanut butter sundae for Rondo.  He was really into it…

Before dinner Rondo ran around in the dog park there (a nice one!) and then we had a great time eating, catching up with Lauren, and enjoying the last bit of summer.  Here are some pictures from yesterday…

I think my favorite is Rondo trying to get the beer…what a rascal. Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Is Summer Really Over?

This weekend was wonderful!  Rondo and I went home to my parents house and got to relax, go on long walks, run all over the park, take naps, and enjoy driving around in the car (his new favorite).  Sunday the whole family went to the beach for a delicious brunch and to enjoy the last moments of summer before school starts again for Mom and summer Friday’s end for me.

Rondo was EXHAUSTED after all of the long walks, running, and playing outside he did this weekend.  He is so cute (especially when he is sleeping).  But when we got home on Monday and he saw Jay, he forgot about all the fun we had together and only wanted to cuddle his Papa.

In other news, my plants at home survived the weekend alone which made me really happy.  My herb garden is even starting to grow!

It’s hard to be back at work today, to leave Jay and the pup when all we want to do is snuggle at home.  At least I have homemade blueberry cake for breakfast and some yummy pumpkin cider waiting at home (fall is coming!).

Flowers in Brooklyn

Below are some pictures from yesterday and this morning.  Rondo and I took a new route in our neighborhood and found the prettiest flowers growing on a fence (it’s the little things), and some graffiti too.  Rondo lost a big puppy tooth which Jay found in the closet…I assume we will find a chewed shoe in there soon. I attempted to do a sock bun which…err…see attempt 1 and 2 below (and my silly faces…sorry!).  Yesterday the Backstreet Boys came to work, yes, I acted like a 12 year old.  And my cupcake habit is yet to slow down, it’s not ok.  That’s all for now!

.

Lately…

These past couple weeks have been wild for us. We were in Maine for a wedding, I went to Nashville, Jay went to Vegas, Rondo had his first swim, and we have been running around NYC working, going to shows (we saw Once finally!), PS1, and taking care of Rondo after his surgery.  The summer is always a lot of fun, but there is no rest…none.  Here are some pictures from what we’ve been up to the last couple weeks!
