Dinner / Movie / Mess

IMG_5285Last night Jay and I decided to go to see Silver Linings Playbook (so good!) at Nitehawk!  We love this movie theater!  They have amazingly delicious food (clearly the most important part), a full bar (eh maybe this is most important), and its really intimate (not a huge megaplex).  Check out their menu here!

(theater, how you order, ticket)

Anyways, we had a great meal (I had shrimp and fried grits oh.my.god.), we loved the movie, and it was a fun night out.  Then we got home…

Where this monster had thrown up all over our comforter! YAY!  It’s my own fault he overate and looks like he snacked on a toy too…poor little guy.  So after a scramble to clean our mattress cover, get new sheets on, and find blankets to sleep with, we were off to bed.  Always something right?

Wishing everyone a sick-dog free day!

Meatballs! (recipe below)

Another weekend over…bummer…we did enjoy it though!  Friday we had our friend’s engagement party at Brooklyn Brewery (congrats T&K!).  Below are some pics from the night (cheese much Jay?!)…

Saturday we took it easy during the day, and went to see David Byrne on the waterfront at night.  Such an awesome show!  Plus, we were standing next to Bobby from Twin Peaks (which we were way too excited about).

The rest of the weekend was spent paying attention to our man…

He’s a horrible New Yorker…

Sunday I decided to use my herb garden since it is starting to grow out of control and make turkey meatballs (we are a red meat free house).  I thought I would share the recipe since they are so delicious and pretty healthy as meatballs go!

TURKEYMEATBALLS

What you will need:

3 cloves garlic
1/4 cup parsley
1 pound turkey meat (I get 99% fat free organic)
1/2 cup bread crumbs
1/3 cup grated parm cheese + a couple tablespoons for rolling
1 egg beaten
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 large yellow onion chopped or 1 teaspoon onion juice

(As you can see above I have an onion hater in my house.  I use onion juice in exchange for the onion since it gives the same flavor and keeps the moisture.)

First, preheat your over to 400 degrees, then tear up your turkey with a fork in a bowl:

Next, chop up your parsley (I used some from my garden and bought the rest…I was a little short):

Beat your egg in a separate bowl then add all ingredients to the turkey bowl including the egg:

Now mix it up really well…use your hands! use a fork! but make sure all of the turkey gets seasoned and doesn’t become compacted:

Now start scooping and rolling your meatballs onto a lined baking sheet.  Once you have your meatballs on the sheet, sprinkle with those extra tablespoons of parm:

Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until they are firm.  I usually bake for 25 then let them cook in the sauce for another 10 minutes or so:

Use any sauce you want!  I made mine from scratch yesterday (Trubiano’s you know the recipe) since I had herbs to use and time to kill.

While your meatballs are making the sauce taste extra yummy cook your pasta:

Then plate, serve, and enjoy these tasty (and pretty healthy) meatballs!  Below is Jay’s version and mine:

Let me know if you have any questions and enjoy the start to your week everyone 🙂

Nada

This weekend we did a whole lot of nothing!  After all of the traveling and weekends apart we were both looking forward to a weekend of napping, movie watching, and cuddling the pup…which is exactly what we did!

Saturday Rondo and I went to a new park by the river…check it out…

You could walk right into the river if you wanted!  Naturally, Rondo gave this his best effort.

Jay and I went on a date to Sea that night and ordered enough for 6 people.  The food was incredible and we had a tasty lunch the next day with all those leftovers.

(my attempt at a braid across my hair for dinner)

Then, like I said, lots and lots of napping, movies, snuggling, and an annoying amount of pictures with the pup…

On Sunday Rondo got to play with his new best friend Frank (which means I got to play with Frank’s mama Chelsea! yay!) Here are the two little guys together:

So cute and afterwards soooo tired and a little sulky because his friend left…

Now it’s back to another work week at Rolling Stone… I miss the weekend!

Festival

As usual, another busy week here in NYC.  Monday Jay and I went to see The Master. It was fantastic! I had a quick dinner alone at Grey Dog before meeting him and had the best chicken sandwich in existence.  See proof below…

Tuesday Jay cooked dinner (thank you thank you Jay) and he let me watch The Vow.  Best. Night. Ever.  (ha).  Here’s Rondo on Tuesday after stealing my hair tie.  Guilty much?

Wednesday for my friend’s birthday we went to the San Gennaro Festival in Little Italy at lunch.  We both had massive sausage sandwiches (regretted that later) and walked around checking out all the vendors…

Then happy hour with friends last night, which turned into way later night than expected and a nice headache this morning.  Whoops.  Oh yea, and more guilt from this guy…

Tonight Jay and I are seeing Delta Spirit and Dr.Dog in Central Park.  Like I said earlier, busy week!

New do!

I can’t believe the weekend is over…it went way too quickly.  Friday Rondo and I went to visit M&D in NJ for the night.  Mom and I had tasty breakfast went on a hike with Rondo, did some shopping, got to Trader Joe’s (yay!), and dyed my hair.  Rondo loves being in the grass so much, I feel bad bringing him back to the city.

I came home Saturday for a good friend’s birthday, and had a lazy Sunday before Jay got back from Cape Cod.  I baked cookies, made chicken & rice dinner in the crock pot, watched Bachelorette, and took a long walk around the neighborhood with the little guy.

My favorite is the one of Rondo on the porch.  While I was putting away clothes he decided to take the bathroom mat onto the balcony for more comfortable sunbathing…that is how I found him.  Too funny.

And here is the new hair…I love it!

This weekend…

For the first time in 4 weeks, Jay and I were both home for the weekend together.  It was fantastic.  We were able to take naps, watch movies, eat dinner with friends, and enjoy spending time alone together doing nothing.  Here is a bit about our weekend…

FRIDAY

Friday we had dinner with our friends Reggie and Emily at Dressler. Emily was planning a surprise party for Reggie on Saturday, so to throw off the scent we had a dinner full of unbelievable food and lies about plans.  I had the most amazing artichoke, steak, crabcake, veal cheek (sounds gross but it’s insanely delicious), and peach cake with cream.  Mmm.

SATURDAY

Saturday we went on a big walk with Rondo to the dog park and let him run out all of his energy so we could enjoy the day napping.  On the way back we went to a street fair in our neighborhood where Rondo met more puppies to play with and we got to relax in colorful chairs without any cars.  When we got home we all slept in bed…look at those cuties!

Later that night we had the surprise party which couldn’t have gone better.  He was completely shocked (pictures to come).

SUNDAY

Sunday was our nothing day.  Rondo and I went on a walk down to the pier and enjoyed the skyline and some pretty houses, Jay watched football with his favorite fan, we ate a ton of junk, and watched a couple movies (so lazy!).  My kind of day!

Dinner for me?

Last night after work, I took Rondo on a long walk up to McCarren Park to run around with the other dogs.  He loves it, the sniffing, chasing, running in circles…and I love it because when we come home he is beyond tired.  The best part about it is I came home and Jay was making dinner and got me Fall cider (go get it, it’s yummy).

This morning I tried to get Rondo to give me a kiss in a picture…this is the result…

And then I was bored waiting for Jay to be ready to leave and this happened…

I have a lot of time in the morning since little man has us up at 6:30….clearly.
