Another Rainy Day

IMG_4390

A yucky morning in NYC…but it is supposed to be 60 this afternoon and sunny!  I’ll believe it when I see it.  Some rainy pics from my morning…

The good news is words with friends has decided Rondo is a playable word…clearly I am way too excited about this!

Also, you can see more of my photos on Instagram!

Christmas Mouse

IMG_4370

It has been Christmas around my office for the past couple weeks, and now it seems to (finally) be Christmas all over the city!  Tress and decorations are everywhere!  Look at the beautiful trees above…they made my trip to buy a mouse trap a little bit better.   We are trying to pretend it’s a Christmas mouse and not freak out…but it isn’t working too well….I’m freaked out there is a mouse in our apt.

Otherwise we had a pretty calm weekend.  We did some quality lazing….

We went movies Saturday to see Life of Pi (which was great!).  We went downtown to our favorite secret theater.  Here are some pics from our stroll after the movie…

I did do one successful thing this weekend…got our Christmas cards done!  Woo!  December 3rd and they are already mailed out.  If I only had the same motivation to swiffer…

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

I ate so much!

This weekend we had a Friendsgiving over at Jay’s Sister’s house.  We had a great time…and I ate way, way, way, too much…I ate so much I didn’t even take any pictures!

I did however make this wreath for Julie…I’ll do a DIY post at some point this week 🙂

In other news…

…my orchid is still blooming and has been for the past 7 months…I don’t know what I’m doing right this time!  Maybe after you kill so many plants the universe finally lets you get one right.

…Rondo continues to be the cutest puppy on the planet…seriously…

…and Jay and I continue to be total weirdos…we like it this way.

Hope everyone is off to a great start on this short holiday week!

Lunch at the library

Anyone who knows me, knows that I can’t make it more than 2 hours without eating.  I might not always eat a lot, but I am constantly munching.  Right now the New York Public Library has a special exhibit on New Yorkers and Lunch!  My friend Erin (my best lunch partner) and I went to the exhibit the other day.  Here are some pictures and facts we learned from the visit…

In the 20’s lunch only cost 10 cents, that included a full meal, drink, and snack!

Wonder bread was the first sliced bread for sandwiches and made in NYC in 1921!  Before hand tradition was women and children would have thin slices and men larger crustier ones.   Wonder bread was the first time that everyone had the same serving size.

There was a Charles Dickens exhibit too…

A great way to enjoy our lunch break, in more ways than one!

In other news, the Rockefeller Christmas tree is up and ready to be decorated and lit…yay!  This tree also came from the town where my Dad works, so it’s kind of big news around home.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!  We have a “friendsgiving” on Sunday which should be a lot of fun.  Any great recipe ideas for me?

First Snow

A hurricane last week and snow this week…NYC is having it’s share of weather mania!  Above is the view from our living room window yesterday afternoon…I still can’t believe there is snow on the ground!

Rondo went for his first walk in the snow yesterday and, well, he wasn’t crazy about it…

He cracks me up in his hoodie.  Here are some other pictures of the snow in Brooklyn…

At least the snow makes me feel better about listening to Christmas music already!

Sandy/Halloween/NorthCarolina

The past week has been difficult in the city.  With the horrible devastation from the hurricane, lack of power, transportation, and flooding it has been a different kind of week for sure.  Jay and I were so fortunate throughout the storm, with our only real issue being able to get to work (2 1/2 hour bus ride when it’s normally 20 minutes).  I can’t stop thinking about all the families and hope that we can help somehow.  Here are some pictures of our neighborhood and us at home from the days that followed…

(the NYC skyline with power out from our rooftop)

(working from home, rondo watching his first celtics game, crazy bus lines)

(rondo begging for my food, our park totally flooded, homemade ziti)

(comfy boy napping through the wind)

Before the hurricane was Halloween which was a great time!  We got all dressed up and went to our friends party.  Here are some pics from the night (Jay was Abu Nazir from Homeland and I was Khaleesi from Game of Thrones)…

This weekend after the storm and Halloween, I went to North Carolina to spend the weekend at ECU with my best friends!  We went to a football game, saw all our old haunts, ate a crazy amount of Bojangles, and were really excited to all be back together.  Here are some pics from the weekend…

(beautiful campus, beautiful friends)

(football time…and we actually won!)

Unfortunately now it’s back to reality…but I’m still so thankful for how lucky we were during the storm and hope the recovery is swift.

Bangs / Bisque

Last night I had dinner with my Bug at Cafe Select.  Look how cute this place is (not to mention delicious)…

My lobster bisque had a lobster croissant in it!

And finally…finally…finally…look at my bangs, oh you don’t see them? YESSS!  Never again will I cut you bangs…well, until I cut you again..

A Wedding!

This weekend we were in Chesapeake City to see one of my closest friends in the world get married.  They were calling for rain but we got lovely sunshine! She looked absolutely perfect!  There couldn’t have been a more wonderful day to see her marry her best friend.

It’s hard when you’re in the wedding to take pictures, but as soon as the professional ones come in, I’ll be sure to post them.  Here are some of the ones I have…

I can’t wait to share more pictures of the beautiful venue, flowers, friends, and family who were at the wedding.  Getting to spend time surrounded by all your best friends, have a professional do your hair and makeup, and seeing a happy couple take this big step is a pretty good weekend in my book!

Rondo spent the weekend with parents at home loving life.  He got to go on long walks, get totally completely spoiled by my Mom, snuggle in a big house, and enjoy the grass.  Thank you again M&D for taking him, and more importantly, taking care of Jay and I on Sunday when we were a little worse for wear…what would I do without you two?

Last night Jay and I went to see Frightened Rabbit (one of my favs) at Bowery Ballroom.  We were both pretty tired, but made sure to get our act together for this show.  Two encores!  It was totally worth feeling a little groggy this morning.  Plus, we only drank water last night which definitely helped!
